Karunanidhi on ‘Madras Cafe’

The State must enquire whether the film ‘Madras Cafe’ depicted Sri Lankan Tamils in a poor light ahead of its scheduled release in Tamil Nadu, and ensure proper action, DMK Chief M. Karunanidhi has said in a statement.

He also criticised the reported statement by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B.S. Gnanadesikan that it was not possible to call Sri Lanka an enemy State because one had to engage with it officially to demand for better rights for the Tamil minority there.

At a time when international pressure was mounting to make accountable the Mahinda Rajapaksa-led government for war crimes in the final days of the battle against LTTE in northern parts of the island nation, Mr. Karunanidhi said Mr. Gnandesikan’s statement coming in aid for official engagement with Sri Lanka was insensitive.
