Karunanidhi concerned over CJI’s remark

April 20, 2014 09:40 am | Updated November 17, 2021 02:05 am IST - CHENNAI:

The DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, on Saturday expressed concern at Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam’s remark that the Supreme Court would pronounce its verdict on the release of the three life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case by April 25, when he will demit office.

This raised fears whether the decision would have political consequences in Tamil Nadu, where the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for April 24, Mr. Karunanidhi said in a statement here.

Complaint to EC Congress leader Americai V. Narayanan lodged a complaint with Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath over the Chief Justice’s remark. However, TNCC president B.S. Gnanadesikan said the party had not authorised anyone to do so.
