Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, who was scheduled to attend a series of party events in the district till February 24, cancelled her programme minutes after landing at the Thoothukudi airport on Friday evening and returned to Chennai by the same flight. Since the DMK is likely to field Ms. Kanimozhi in the Thoothukudi constituency in the Lok Sabha Polls, she camped in the port town for 11 days from January 18 to participate in the party workers’ meetings and DMK’s gram sabha meetings. In the second phase, she had planned to attend a series of meetings till February 24 from Friday.
When Ms. Kanimozhi landed at the airport at 4.24 p.m. on Friday, DMK cadre led by Tiruchendur MLA ‘Anita’ R. Radhakrishnan and Thoothukudi MLA Geetha Jeevan received her.
Within a few minutes, Ms. Kanimozhi entered the lounge and took the same flight to Chennai at 4.54 p.m.
While the party cadre were confused about the last-minute development, some said she was returning to Chennai following an instruction from party president M.K. Stalin to participate in the all-party meeting to be held in New Delhi on Saturday in connection with the killing of 40 CRPF jawans in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.
