‘Kamal is struggling to build party’

Actor Kamal Haasan, who has floated the Makkal Needhi Maiam, is struggling to build his party, said Tamilaruvi Manian, the founder of the Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam, who has been rooting for actor Rajinikanth’s political entry.

Mr. Manian told journalists in Coimbatore on Sunday that Mr. Haasan had started his party in a hurry and was struggling to build a base, which he said was important for a leader, however great he might be, to become the Chief Minister. Actor Rajinikanth, on the other hand, was close to completing 80% of the task [of forming a party], he claimed. Once Mr. Rajinikanth completed the rest, he would announce the party’s launch, he added.

In response to a question on the possibility of Mr. Rajinikanth forging an alliance with the BJP, he pointed out that the actor had not spoken a word on any alliance. However, everyone could see that the BJP remained isolated in T.N., he said. He slammed the State government for passing a “weak” Lokayukta Bill.

“The government had drafted and passed the Bill in such a way that it protected the corrupt. The Bill should be torn and thrown into the bin,” he said. Calling for total prohibition, he said that if all political parties were willing, it could be implemented in a day.
