Parents of some of the accused in the 2008 case share their joy over their sons being acquitted from the case in Hubballi on Thursday.

For years, these parents attended the hearings in the Hubballi court in the case where their children were accused of “waging war against the country”. On Thursday, they forgot all the pain as the court ruled their children “not guilty”.

“For no fault, our children were arrested and accused of sedition. Allah has revealed the truth,” said Abubkar, father of Asadullah of Hospet.

Veerankutty, an ex-serviceman and father of Yahya Kummakutti, a native of Mukkam in Kozhikode, was among the happy lot.

Yahya, an engineer who worked for Wipro for almost 15 years, had started his own IT firm in Bengaluru, when the police arrested him. “We are happy with the judgment,” he said.

Petty shopkeeper Abdul Razak from Aluva in Ernakulam district of Kerala was happy for his son Mohammad Ansar (a Moulvi), who was accused no. 15 in the case.

“Allah has delivered justice to us,” he said, mirroring father of Allabaksh, W.A. Yadwad’s, reaction.

One of the accused, Syed Sadiq of Bengaluru, was very evocative.

“I was picked up from Bengaluru and straight away put in judicial custody. There was no police custody. For no fault of mine I was made to spend three and half years in jail before I got bail. It should not happen to others,” he said. “Who will give me back the years I spent in jail? My only plea is for immediate steps to prevent innocent youths from suffering.”

Safdar Nagori

among acquitted

Safdar Hussain Nagori, an accused in the Ahmedabad serial blasts case, and reportedly a leader of the outlawed SIMI, is among the acquitted. Mr. Nagori, a resident of Mehdapur in Ujjaini district of Madhya Pradesh, was accused no. 10 in the case registered in 2008.
