Since over a lakh seats in engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu remained vacant last year, managements of the self-financing engineering colleges have started an aggressive campaign through the media to instill confidence in students and their parents that employment opportunities for engineering graduates were abundant within the country and also abroad.
S. Mohamed Jaleel, president of Tirunelveli Anna University of Technology Self-Financing Engineering Colleges Management Association, told reporters here on Wednesday that several lakhs of well-paid job opportunities were waiting in India and abroad for the technocrats graduating in the areas associated with computer science and engineering. This area was expected to register 15 per cent growth during this fiscal to provide employment to 2.30 lakh engineers from the fields of information technology and computer science and engineering.
The man-machine interface, a technology likely to rule the days to come, would create 14 to 33 trillion US Dollars industry before 2025 and hence those who had equipped themselves with engineering education would stand immensely benefited.
In India, the Centre’s ‘Smart Cities Programme’ would generate another 30 to 40 billion Dollar-worth employment opportunities and the recently signed Memoranda of Understanding with China, Japan and South Korea were also likely to revive boom in the Information Technology industry within the country.
“The proposed establishment of the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, online shopping etc. promise the creation of several lakhs of jobs in near future,” Mr. Mohamed Jaleel said.
Asserting that ‘core companies’ were also visiting the colleges in down south for ‘on-campus placement’, he said the association was taking innovative efforts to make the students employable in the job market by creating more infrastructure in colleges.
