The release of the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) results on Saturday was a tepid affair this year. However, the ranks of the candidates will be announced after the second JEE Main examination in April.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been assigned the task of conducting the JEE Main examinations in January and April.

Quite a few students of AhaGuru, run by Balaji Sampath, have done well, scoring above 99%.

The Tamil Nadu topper Gaurav Prakash, a student of AhaGuru, has been studying Physics for the past two years at the centre. His total is 99.99% in the exam. He has scored 99.96 in Physics, 100 in Chemistry and 99.98% in Mathematics. He is preparing for the Olympiad, his mother said.

Vashisht Vasudevan, who has scored 99.6%, has several options. He is waiting for the NTA to release the ranks. Though he is sure he would get into one of the top ranked National Institutes of Technology, he wants to pursue pure science. He is awaiting the results of the Kishore Vygyanik Protsahan Yojana, a scholarship programme run by the Department of Science and Technology. “I might have to improve my scores to get into IISc, IISERs,” he says.

Navin C. Joshi, academic head and Vice-President (JEE and NEET) at Gradeup coaching centre, said, “Candidates should not worry and focus on the April exam. If a student's percentile is 99, this means that 1% students have scored more marks. In this exam session if 1,16,000 students appeared, this means that the rank in that session is approximately 1,160 and overall rank is about 1,160 multiplied by 8 (there were eight slots of the exam). This calculation will give an approximate idea about AIR (All India Rank). If a student is seeking admission in an NIT, then the percentile must be greater than 96. However, the final result will be evaluated after the April examination.”
