Rajammal, 70, a long-time employee of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on Tuesday deposed before the Commission looking into the former Chief Minister’s death.
Ms. Rajammal, who continues to live at the Poes Garden residence of Jayalalithaa, has been cooking for Jayalalithaa’s family for several decades. She hails from Madurai and reportedly joined the workforce when the former CM’s mother Vedavalli was still alive.
On Tuesday, Ms. Rajammal arrived with her lawyer Muthukumar and deposed before the Justice A. Arumughaswamy Commission from 2.45-4.45 pm. She left without briefing journalists on her testimony.
Ms. Rajammal continues to live at Jayalalithaa’s residence Veda Nilayam even after the former CM’s death; the Commission sent its summons to the address. She was summoned after figuring on a list of 31 names – all employees of Jayalalithaa – submitted to the Commission by Jayalalithaa’s personal assistant S. Poongundran.
In her deposition of December 2017, Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar had requested the Commission that Ms. Rajammal be asked to testify.
