The withdrawal of the criminal proceedings against the former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, and her close aide Sasikala in the income tax cases has been delayed further.

The case has been adjourned to January 8.

Counsel for Ms. Jayalalithaa and Ms. Sasikala filed a petition for an adjournment as the department has not passed the final order on their compounding applications.

Sum remitted

On November 26, the Regional Compounding Committee decided to accept the request of Ms. Jayalalithaa and Ms. Sasikala for compounding the offences. Following this, Rs. 1,99,93,061 was remitted to the department on November 27.
