AIADMK cadre broke into celebrations by bursting crackers and distributing sweets in Salemfollowing the acquittal of their party general secretary Jayalalithaa by the Karnataka High Court in the disproportionate wealth case here on Monday.
As soon as the news broke out, cadre, both men and women, gathered in large numbers at many places on the roads and distributed sweets to the passers and also burst crackers. Many in two-wheelers carried the party’s flag and came around the city with women cadre performing special puja at temples. “Our prayers are answered and now she is back as CM”, they said dancing to the tunes of drum beats. With most of the party leaders left for Chennai, the celebrations of the cadre continued till late evening with chorus chanting of ‘Long Live Amma’. The celebrations continued in Attur, Mettur, Edappadi and other rural pockets of the district.
Many cadre raised slogans that she will be the next Chief Minister in the coming Assembly elections and also a permanent CM of the State.
Earlier, police personnel were posted at Tamil Nadu – Karnataka border at Palar to prevent untoward incidents. Police personnel were posted at arterial roads and at important junctures in the city.
Also, celebrations continued at various places in Namakkal district also.
