Chief Minister Jayalalithaa offered prayers at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam on Wednesday, coinciding with ‘magam nakshatram,' her birth star.

Ms. Jayalalithaa flew down from Chennai and drove to the temple from the airport. She arrived there at around 5.20 p.m. and spent one-and-a-half hours, offering prayers at the various sannidhis.

She was received with full temple honour by Sundar Bhattar, Nandu Bhattar and temple officials at the Ranga Ranga gopuram. Entry of devotees through the gopuram was restricted for 10 minutes before her arrival.

Ms. Jayalalithaa offered prayers at Sri Garuda Azhvar Sannidhi, Sri Ranganathaswamy Sannidhi, Sri Thayar Sannidhi, Sri Chakkarathazhvar and Sri Ramanujar Sannidhi, using a battery car on certain stretches. Tight security arrangements were in place. The Chief Minister kept the visit strictly private, with party men being conspicuous by their absence.
