Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday gave Rs 50,000 each to AIADMK cadre in Alampatti village M. Selvaraj and Tirumangalam panchayat union councillor (ward-14) P. Selvam who informed the police about the pipe bombs hidden in a bridge to target BJP leader L.K. Advani during his tour in Tamil Nadu.

A press release from AIADMK office said it was Mr. Selvaraj who spotted the bombs hidden in a causeway across Koundan river on Tirumangalam-Rajapalayam route to be travelled by Mr Advani. He immediately called Mr Selvam who in turn informed the police. The bomb was defused and a major blast was averted.

Ms. Jayalalithaa invited them to her Poes Garden residence and handed over the money on behalf of the party.

Mr. Selvam said he was honoured by the gesture of the Chief Minister. “She thanked me and Selvaraj for averting a major tragedy,” he said.
