Jayalalithaa declares open houses

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday declared open 8,251 houses constructed at a cost of Rs. 303 crore in 11 coastal districts.

Barring 612 houses in Pudukottai district under the Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Package, the remaining houses were built under the World Bank-aided Emergency Tsunami Reconstruction Project (ETRP).

The construction of the houses was carried out in the first phase.

Totally, there would be 14,364 houses for those affected persons whose houses were located in the radius of 200 metres to 1000 metres from the high tide line of the sea.

Each house, costing Rs. 3.75 lakh, was of the size of 325 sq. ft.

Insured

All houses had been insured for 10 years, according to an official release.
