January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 11:30 am IST - CHENNAI:

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Jayalalithaa and Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam do not figure in the list of star campaigners submitted by the party to the election authorities for the Srirangam by-election slated for February 13. Official sources say the AIADMK’s list has the names of 40 persons, which include Ministers.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam too has submitted a list of 40 star campaigners.

The idea behind the practice of submitting lists of star campaigners is to get exemption for travel expenses incurred by such campaigners from the expenditure of candidates.
