June 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - ERODE:

Confederation of Indian Industry — Erode Zone and government departments sought to get their acts together on Friday to fast-track economic growth in the region through a marathon discussion.

A candid exchange of views between industry representatives and officials of a host of line departments that followed the formal inauguration of CII’s Industry-Government Connect Forum by District Collector S. Prabakar set the context for evolving a plan of action for sustaining the joint efforts.

There was consensus about the necessity for conducting periodic meetings under the aegis of the Forum for rectifying grievances of the industry sector.

Acknowledging the role of industries in fostering economic progress locally through production and employment, District Collector said in his inaugural address that the State Government was keen on sustaining and accelerating growth of textile sector through installation of Common Effluent Treatment Plants within a time frame.

A report would be readied by the Consultant: Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company, in five months.

The Collector advised industries to integrate technology into implementing the specified safety standards for prevention of accidents at workplace.

Earlier, the chairman of Erode CII Zone made an observation that the trend of authorities and media hounding proprietors in the event of industrial accidents taking place despite precautions was a dampener.

Ease of doing business, he said, was a vital factor for attracting industrial investments.

The Forum envisages open discussions with friendly outlook for sorting out the problems, he said.

The District Development Plan of CII Erode Zone was in sync with the State Government Vision 2023, Vice-Chairman C. Devarajan said.

The Forum, he said, envisages combining initiatives of industry and government to bring about economic progress.
