Inspector suspended over Ambur clash held for hunting deer

Ambur Inspector of Police Martin Premraj, who has been placed under suspension after the recent clash in Ambur, was arrested by the Forest Department officials here on Friday.

District Forest Officer Vismiju Viswanathan told The Hindu that the Inspector, along with dismissed constable Christopher of Kanyakumari district and two others, was arrested for hunting a female sambar deer in Maramalai in Veerapalli Reserve Forest under Azhagyapandiapuram Forest Range. All the four were remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a Forest Judge here on Friday night. Forest officials are on the lookout for six others in this connection.

A licensed gun of the constable, two vehicles and 40 kg of meat, skin and horns of the animal were seized from the accused. A case under Section 4 of the Wildlife Act had been registered, Mr. Viswanathan said.
