Information galore on last day of PIC

Rs.10 lakh worth coins given at RBI stall

The public were treated to a plethora of information on various topics on the last day of the Public Information Campaign (PIC) organised by the Press Information Bureau of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India here on Thursday.

Awareness programmes were organised by the Department of Field Publicity, Puducherry and Vellore units in the villages of Abdullapuram, Anpoondi, Kilmonavoor, Melmonavoor, Perumugai, Pulimedu, Sekkanur Sembedu, Sirukanji and Venkatapuram on the welfare schemes of the Centre.

Azhagarsamy, Assistant Director, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises-Development Institute (MSME-DI), Chennai, said the MSME-DI provided training, assistance in obtaining investment capital and marketing of the products to those who come forward to set up enterprises. Kadir Ahmed, Public Information Officer of the Vellore Postal Division explained the salient features of the postal services.

Coins worth Rs.10 lakh were distributed in exchange for currency notes and soiled/cut notes worth Rs.1.63 lakh exchanged for fresh notes, benefiting 485 persons at the RBI stall on the last day alone.

P. Karthiyayini, Mayor of Vellore, who delivered the valedictory address appealed to the girl students who had turned up in large numbers to consider defeats as stepping stones to success. She distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted as part of the PIC, and certificates and mementos to the participants.

Jacob Abraham, Deputy Director, PIB, Chennai presided. Chidambaranathan, Assistant Director, PIB welcomed. Thenappan, Media & Communications Officer, PIB proposed a vote of thanks.
