Members of the Pazhangudi Makkal Viduthalai Kootamaippu staged a demonstration on Wednesday demanding that the Forest Rights Act 2006 of the State Government be implemented properly.

The organisation said that Forest Rights Committees be formed in all villages for the benefit of the tribal people dependent on forest produce.

The protestors led by the Kootamaippu coordinator Julius brought to focus the plight of the people living on Kathirimalai, a hilly village on Bargur hills, without road connectivity and power supply.

They assailed the district administration for not responding adequately to the several petitions submitted by the residents for the last 30 years.

They said that agriculture fields allegedly usurped by land sharks from the plains be restored to them, and all Tasmac outlets on the hills be closed.
