The Indian Institute of Technology - Madras has signed an agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for research on air navigation systems. The memorandum of understanding signed on Wednesday will address aviation infrastructure and air traffic management challenges across 125 airports in the country.
Ravindra Gettu, IIT-M dean of industrial consultancy and sponsored research, and A.K. Dutta, member (air navigation services), AAI, signed the MoU.
‘Game-changer’
Mr. Gettu said the MoU would pave the way for mutually beneficial and lasting solutions in the field of aviation. The MoU is also expected to facilitate IIT-M access air traffic data for its researchers. IIT-M director Bhaskar Ramamurthi said the partnership would bring in innovation in airport and navigation management and address challenges in the Indian aviation sector. Mr. Dutta said the partnership would be a game-changer for Indian aviation.
The memorandum not only provides for transfer of knowledge and skill by the Institute’s experts in the areas of mathematical / analytical / artificial intelligence / data mining solutions essential to carry out research but also facilitate access to crucial data related to air traffic for the institute’s researchers.
