May 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - THANJAVUR:

The Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT) here is entering the JEE Central Common Counselling system, like the IITs and NITs, for admission to its B.Tech (Food Process Engineering) academic programme from the current academic year.

Announcing this to the media here on Friday, IICPT Director K.Singaravadivel pointed out that the institute functioning under the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries would admit students to its undergraduate programme through the All India Ranks based on the marks obtained in the Joint Entrance Exam (Main) 2015, higher secondary examination marks, and counselling through the Central Seat Allocation Board.

“Common counselling mode of admissions for B.Tech (Food Process Engineering) would bring in wider applicants from across the country. Moreover, the institute would enter into the common platform for admitting students into the professional degree programme that gives a nation identity,” Dr. Singaravadivel said.

At present, the IICPT admits 40 students in B.Tech (Food Process Engineering), 10 each in M.Tech (FPE) and M.Tech (Food Science and Technology) and five for the Ph.D programmes. Applications for admission to M.Tech and Ph. D programmes were being invited directly and candidates short listed based on merit.

The institute boasts advanced infrastructure and facilities, including AICTE-approved technical laboratories, next generation smart classrooms, ISO certified food processing business incubation centre, NABL accredited state-of-the-art food testing laboratory, and strong national and international tie ups, Dr. Singaravadivel said adding that the institute's well-organised placement cell has landed students in reputed industries for a great career.
