A group of people, including activists, has urged the Centre to set up the AIIMS hospital at Sengipatti.

It formed a 7-km human chain on Saturday.

The call for the human chain was given by the Sengipatti AIIMS Struggle Committee and was supported by the factions of the ruling AIADMK, DMK, CPI, CPI(M), Congress, VCK, Tamil Maanila Congress, and other organisations.

The struggle committee leader, Ayanapuram Murugesan, participated.

Big support

Thousands of people lined up from Sengipatti to Pudukkudi on the district border with Tiruchi district and raised slogans urging the Centre to select the land identified in Sengipatti for AIIMS.
