Commitment to quality will create huge demand for products manufactured by self-help groups as consumers are seeking quality products, said Collector N.Subbaiyan at the inauguration of an exhibition-cum-sale of SHG products here on Monday.

Dr.Subbaiyan said that considering the availability of good marketing opportunities, the SHG products were bound to make an impact if group members showed commitment to quality and hygiene.

In particular, tasty edible items of good quality were in constant demand from the consumers, he said. Pointing out that State government was extending various benefits to SHGs for venturing into economic development activities either individually or through collective ventures, Dr. Subbaiyan said that viable ideas by the SHGs were always supported by lending institutions.

Dr.Subbaiyan said that SHGs functioning in 15 municipalities and in Thanjavur City Corporation were participating in the regional-level exhibition in a bid to create market opportunities for SHG products in the Thanjavur regional local body area comprising Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Pudukkottai districts.

Mayor Savitri Gopal, Regional Director of Municipal Administration Shanthi, Kumbakonam Municipal Chairperson Rathna Sekar, Corporation Commissioner T.Kumar, Regional Executive Engineer K. Pandurangan, and Assistant Project Officer Swaminathan took part.
