Hostel project approved

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved the proposal to construct a women’s hostel at Periyar University at a cost of Rs. 7.62 crore.

A press release from the university Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan said that a large number of students were pursuing higher studies at the institution, which was recently accredited with ‘A’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). To cater to their needs, the university had sent the project proposal to the UGC.

The vice chancellor said that the expenditure over and above UGC’s share of Rs. 1.20 crore will be met by the university from its own resources.

The construction work of the the hostel would begin soon, the Vice-Chancellor added.
