Held for murdering elderly couple

Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for the murder of an elderly couple in the Tirupattur taluk limit.

Rajendran, 70, and his wife Meena, 60, were found murdered on the veranda of their house at Thamanur village in Tirupattur on Sunday. The three sons of couple are working as masons in Bengaluru.

P.K. Senthilkumari, Superintendent of Police, Vellore, said seven special teams were formed to investigate. On Wednesday, the police nabbed Sakthivel of Pullikuthi vattam, Thamanur village on Vengalapuram Koot Road. Following suspicion, they inquired him.

He confessed to having murdered the couple as he needed money for gambling and drinking. He took away a pair of ear studs and a ‘thali’ weighing a sovereign from Meena.

Police recovered the jewels and the weapons used in the murder.
