Heavy rain in Kanyakumari

Level in major waterbodies in the district is fast filling, owing to heavy rain in catchment areas.

Pechiparai received a maximum of 74.6 mm till 8.30 a.m. on Monday. Rainfall registered in other stations (in mm) was: Perunchani 20.8, Chittar I 36, Chittar II 37.2, Mambalathuraiaru 11, Colachel 52, Adayamadai 36, Vilanginavilai 26, Puthananai 21.4, Thirparapu 19, Nagercoil 19.8, Surulode 1.4 and Balamore 13.5.

The level in dams in feet was: Pechiparai 40.35, Perunchani 72.56, Chittar I 17.19, Chittar II 17.29, Poigai 9 and Mambalathuraiaru 54.12.

Water release today

The State government ordered water release to Kothaiar Pattanangal irrigation system from June 2 to February 28.

As many as 79,000 acres will benefit, says a release from Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan.
