Demanding identity cards and basic amenities at work place, good shed head load workers affiliated to CITU staged demonstration in front of the Salem Railway Divisional Office here on Monday.

Protests

Led by Salem good shed workers association secretary A. Govindan, members said that there are over 1,200 workers in good shed in Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Irugur and in North Coimbatore. However, no identity cards were given to them despite many protests. “Being the principal employer, the railways should provide the identity cards”, they added.

They said that such workers in Palakkad railway division were given identity cards. They said that basic facilities including adequate toilets, seating capacities were lacking at the good sheds for the workers and demanded that it be improved. Workers abstained from work for the whole day and staged protest.
