Body of youth killed in clash buried; case registered against 45 persons

Even while total peace prevailed in Aniyampatti village, near Gangavalli, which was scene of violence leading to the death of a youth on Friday, armed police pickets have been posted in the village to maintain law and order.

B. Karthick (28) was killed in the clash between two Dalit communities backing two different political parties over the issue of displaying some flex board by one group.

More than 20 persons from both the groups sustained injuries and were admitted to the GH in the city and at Attur and Gangavalli.

The body of Karthick was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem examination at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital on Saturday. The body was later buried in the village in the evening under tight police protection.

Vidya D. Kulkarni, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Salem Range, G. Subbulakshmi, Superintendent of Police, Salem district, and Kasinathan, Deputy SP, Attur, visited the village and monitored the security arrangements, along with S. Jayachandran, Revenue Divisional Officer, Attur.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint by Balamurugan, father of Karthick, the police registered cases against 45 persons.

The police took into custody 19 persons on Saturday morning and are on the lookout for the rest of the accused.

Police sources said that total peace was prevailing in Aniyampatti village and surrounding areas.
