Grama Sabha meetings held

January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - ERODE:

Grama Sabha meetings at over 200 panchayats in the district served as platforms for villagers to derive pride in their stake-holder status in developmental activities.

Panchayat heads walked the extra mile to convey the sense of purpose in the developmental activities undertaken and the works in progress. At some panchayats, the Grama Sabha meetings helped in reminding the villagers of their responsibilities to pay tax amounts in time.

At the Kaspapettai Panchayat, the local body had printed pamphlets highlighting the deteriorating financial condition. The villagers were requested to pay their dues unfailingly.

District Collector S. Prabakar took part in one such meeting at Kinipalayam Adidravidar Colony, which was a hamlet of Mettuputhur Panchayat in Perundurai Panchayat Union.

Opportunity for discussion on proper usage of funds under government schemes must be utilised by villagers for identifying priorities, the Collector said, and apprised villagers of the schemes.
