Sub-Inspector Catherine Mary, attached to the All Women Police Station in Kodaikanal, was suspended on the charges of accepting bribe for filing an FIR in a family dispute case here on Tuesday.
The investigators said that P. Seethalakshmi of Kodaikanal gave a complaint to the SI against her husband Paul Raj, a sanitary worker in Kodaikanal GH, who suspected her fidelity and tortured her often. The SI reportedly delayed the filing of FIR against Paul Raj. Meanwhile, her husband approached the court for an anticipatory bail. The SI asked the complainant to give Rs.2,000 for managing transport expenses to go to Madurai in this connection and to file an FIR immediately. After bargain, Seethalakshmi gave Rs.1,800 to get the FIR filed. But the SI did not file the case and gave evasive replies. Irked over this, the complainant took the issue to the higher officials.
After an investigation, a special team found the complaint to be true and submitted a report to the SP. There were several allegations against the SI while she was working in Pattiveeranpatti police station also, the team added.
