DMK women’s wing president and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader and Rajya Sabha MP K. Kanimozhi on Sunday accused the State government of hiding facts with regard to dengue deaths in the State.

She told reporters here on Sunday that the government had not properly accounted for the deaths due to dengue. This was because the government wanted to hide its failure in mosquito eradication measures. She also pointed to the delay in conducting the local body polls, and said that had the elections been held, the elected members would have taken steps to prevent the outbreak of dengue.

Ms. Kanimozhi said the State Ministers would do well to refrain from political speeches at government functions. Those criticising the Opposition at government functions were those who did not know politics and they did so because there was hardly anything to highlight as the government’s achievements. The government had lost the trust of the people. The people wanted the AIADMK government to fall, she said.

She accused the AIADMK government of not pursuing with earnestness the case filed in the Supreme Court against the law to appoint people from all communities as priests. The DMK government had enacted a law in this regard but it was challenged in the courts. Had the government been sincere, it could have won the case, she claimed.
