Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has sent a report to President Pranab Mukherjee on the commotion witnessed in the State Legislative Assembly when the motion of confidence was moved by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday last. Raj Bhavan sources said a copy of the report was also marked to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
The report follows allegations levelled by M.K. Stalin, working president of the DMK and Leader of the Opposition, and O. Panneerselvam, former Chief Minister, against the Speaker alleging that he exercised his powers arbitrarily.
Pointing out that IPS officers entered the Assembly wearing uniform normally worn by the watch and ward staff, they demanded that the proceedings on Saturday be declared as null and void and a secret ballot be held on the Motion of Confidence.
Parrying questions on the views of the Governor on the issue, a Raj Bhavan official said the report was based on the allegations and report of the Assembly Secretary.
“What happened in the Assembly on that day was telecast by television news channels (based on footage provided by one private television channel). Everybody knows what happened and the Governor has gone by the official version though the allegations made by the DMK leader and former Chief Minister were the basis for seeking a report on the issue,” the official said.
