Government offices to observe ‘anti-dengue day’ on Thursdays

As part of its efforts to tackle the menace of dengue in the State, all government offices in the State have been instructed to observe all Thursdays as ‘anti-dengue day’ from this month, Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar said here on Monday.

Talking to mediapersons after attending a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami at his residence, Mr. Vijaya Baskar said going forward, activities aimed at cleaning up the campus in which the offices are located would be taken up on Thursdays.

As per a surveillance report, about 10,000 people in Tamil Nadu had been affected by dengue in the past one year and this information had been shared with the Central government, which, in turn, had published it on its website, the Minister said while replying to a query.

On the number of fatalities related to dengue, Mr. Vijaya Baskar said, “The Secretary said 23 persons have died due to dengue.” Replying to a query on how many fresh cases of dengue had been reported in the State, Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan said, “There are about 28-30 fresh cases in Chennai every day. There are about 700 cases across the State.”

The Health Minister also called upon the general public to go to the nearest hospital soon after they experience symptoms of fever. The Chief Minister also reportedly instructed the officials to create awareness among the public.
