Gold, foreign currency seized at city airport

Customs officers posted at the airport recently seized 430 g of gold, valued at ₹13.4 lakh, and foreign currency worth ₹10 lakh.

According to a press relase, during checks on Wednesday, Saudi riyal and U.S. dollars worth around ₹10 lakh were seized from Sathakathulla Mohamed Salim, 45, bound for Colombo by Sri Lankan Airlines.

On Tuesday, Krishnakanthan, 69, holder of a Canadian passport, who arrived from Toronto via Frankfurt to Chennai, was found carrying gold ornaments weighing 430 g.

The gold and foreign currency were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.

Further investigations are in progress.
