Union Minister of Shipping G.K. Vasan will visit Norway to improve bilateral cooperation in maritime trade and development.
According to an official release, he will hold talks with Trond Giske, Minister of Trade and Industry, Norway, on mutual cooperation for supply of Norwegian equipment to Indian shipyards and the Norwegian contribution for development of Indian shipyards, including Cochin Shipyard Limited, through supply of products.
The discussions will also revolve around promoting the Indian ancillary industry through technology transfer and joint ventures.
Mr. Vasan will participate in Maritime Summit 2011, which will be attended by shipping ministers from 10 countries, to discuss sustainable development in the shipping sector and trends in international shipping markets, innovation, environmental challenges and seafarers welfare.
He will also hold discussions with Japanese Vice Minister for International Affairs Seiichi Ohkuchi.
Mr. Vasan will visit `Himadri', the first Indian Arctic Research Station at Svalbard, and participate in the Nor Shipping Conference and Exhibition to be held in Oslo during his trip to Norway during May 22 to 29.
