Girl’s death sparks dengue suspicion

Officials of the Health Department are waiting for medical report from the Christian Medical College (CMC) to ascertain the cause of death of a nine-year-old girl, who was admitted with fever on Thursday.

With reports doing the rounds that Aarthi, a resident of Nari Murugappa Mudali Street in Gudiyatham, died due to dengue, officials said the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

Aarthiwas admitted to the hospital on Thursday. CMC officials said her condition was bad when she was brought to the hospital and she was immediately taken to the Intensive Care Unit. However, she died on Thursday night.

‘Died before dengue test’

“The girl died before the dengue test was carried out. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained,” he said.

Deva Parthasarathy, deputy director of health services, Tirupattur said Aarthi had fever for three days and collapsed on the third day.

“It is not clear if she had any other complication. We are collecting details from CMC and are waiting for the report,” he said.

Following this, health officials took up cleaning works in the ward. They are also planning for mass cleaning measures in four wards of Gudiyatham.

“We have advised the local body on the necessary mosquito control measures to be taken. We are providing them technical support,” he added.
