GIDC officials visit knitwear cluster

A team of officials from Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) completed a two-day visit to Tirupur knitwear cluster which was aimed at understanding the success model of garment exports from ‘fibre to foreign’ (i.e. foreign countries).

The GIDC team comprising Chief Engineer B. C. Warli, Divisional Manager D. S. Parmar and Senior Architect-Town Planner Alka Badlani visited Netaji Apparel Park, various units in different segments of the apparel production chain and NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion.

They also held talks with Sripuram Trust, a forum formed of different stakeholders in Tirupur knitwear cluster, to learn how the exporters here succeeded to maintain the share in global apparel market.

T. R. Vijayakumar, coordinator of Sripuram Trust, told reporters that the team basically conducted the tour as the GIDC was planning to set up four apparel parks in Gujarat in the near future.

“Such facilities for apparels are not there much in that region and hence wanted to learn the nuances of production and working out the profit margins from experienced exporters,” he said.
