Geetha Jeevan rebuts charge

DMK MLA Geetha Jeevan on Tuesday countered Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s allegation that DMK cadre led by her had instigated violence during the anti-Sterlite protests in Thoothukudi last week.

Noting that the residents had been protesting peacefully against Sterlite, she said that on the 100th day of the protest, the people had planned to take out a rally. Over 500 party cadre, led by her, participated in the rally but were arrested by the police and detained in a marriage hall. Against this backdrop, the CM was belittling the locals who had participated in the protest, she said. The DMK was being blamed only out of political compulsion, she added.
