Two unidentified persons robbed about ₹3.5 lakh from the employees of a Tasmac shop after opening fire using a country gun and injuring them, near Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district on Saturday.

Police sources said that P. Murugan, 50, of Buthireddipatti, and A. Anandan, 45, of Nambipatti village, salesmen of a Tasmac retail outlet in Kaatteri, were retuning to their room at Anumantheertham in a moped at 11 p.m. with the day’s collection. They were chased by a gang on two-wheelers.

When the salesmen tried to go faster, the gang opened fire on them. As the injured Mr. Murugan and Mr. Anandan fell down, the gang took away the bag with the cash and fled, the police said.

Mr. Murugan informed the 108 ambulance and the locals. They were rushed to the Government Hospital, Uthangarai, from where Mr. Murugan was sent to the Government Medical College Hospital, Dharmapuri, and Mr. Anandan to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, Salem.

Pellets were removed from the body of Mr. Anandan after surgery on Sunday, hospital authorities said.

The Uthangarai police have registered a case under Sections 397 of the IPC and 251 (a) Indian Arms Act. K. Periaiah, Inspector General of Police, west zone, and D. Magesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police, visited the spot. The police have formed six special teams to nab the culprits.
