Gang attacks two pilgrims on padayatra

An unidentified gang attacked two Madurai-based pilgrims on padayatra to Palani at Kannivadi near here on Tuesday.

The injured – P. Vijay (20) and M. Vairamuthu (23) of Jaihindpuram in Madurai – were admitted to a private hospital in Dindigul for treatment.

Police said that six persons, who came on two motorcycles, attacked the pilgrims with lethal weapons in front of a bakery and fled the scene.

The two injured were part of a five-member group going to Palani from Madurai for Thai Pusam festival.

Sempatti police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating.
