Gandhi and Godse were freedom fighters: Jeeyar

A day after warning that actor-politician Kamal Haasan would not be allowed to walk free on the streets for his “Hindu extremist” remarks on Nathuram Godse, Shendalangara Sampathkumara Ramanuja Jeeyar of Mannargudi on Thursday said both Mahatma Gandhi and his assassin Godse were freedom fighters, but there were differences (in approach) between them. The Jeeyar, however, did not elaborate on his comment.

The Jeeyar told presspersons in Salem: “Muslims are involved in terrorist acts across the globe, that does not mean all Muslims are terrorists.”

IS links

He brushed away Mr. Hassan’s explanation that he had used the term “extremist” and not “terrorist”, and reiterated his allegation that the Makkal Needhi Maiam founder had links with terrorist organisations like the IS.

The Jeeyar alleged that Mr. Hassan was anti-Hindu and was making such remarks for publicity. Any individual who acts against the interests of Hindus must be arrested, he said.
