“Freedom from power cut in 6 months’’

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday assured the 14 Finance Commission that the State would be totally “free of power cuts” and would be “a power surplus State in six months or so.”

Responding to a question raised by Sudipto Mundle, Member of the Commission on the gap between demand and supply on the power front, she said that till now, every power generating plant under the control of the State government was functioning to capacity. The power deficit arose because of “certain flaws” which had crept in Central Generating Stations.

She added that it was “very odd” that all these had taken place simultaneously.
