Free laptops distributed to students

A total of 93,196 students received free laptops worth Rs. 157.27 crore in the district.

Collector K. Maharabushanam said that the scheme was introduced on September 15, 2011 in Tiruvalluvar district by Chief Minister Jayalalitha. In 2011-12, a total of 32,387 students in the district received the free laptops worth Rs. 54.32 crore, in 2012-13, a total of 33,741 students received laptops worth Rs. 56.63 crore, in 2013-14, a total of 26,579 students received laptops worth Rs. 44.61 crore and in 2014-15, a total of 489 students received laptops worth Rs. 83 lakh.

He said that by receiving free laptops, students were able to improve their studies. The Collector said that free laptops served as a boon to students coming from rural areas as it had improved their learning ability. He added that beneficiaries would be given the free laptops in the coming days. “All schemes implemented for the students are reaching them,” he added.
