To mark the 19{+t}{+h}death anniversary of founder of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) B.V. Rao on January 26, free boiled eggs were distributed to 5,000 school students here on Monday.
At a function held here to recall the services and the leadership of the late Dr. Rao to the Indian poultry industry, Central Executive Committee member of NECC K. Thangamuthu in the presence of NECC, Namakkal Zone members distributed eggs to school children’s of three schools.
Members recalled the service of Dr. Rao, who formed the NECC in 1982 when the poultry industry was facing crisis and was in the brink of closure.
They said that the NECC today is the world’s largest association of poultry farmers that play a major role for the betterment of the egg industry in the country.
They added that only after NECC started to fix the price of eggs through 40 committees across the country, farmers were able to continue their farming activities.
Members said that it is due to the efforts of Dr. Rao that the poultry industry once considered as backyard activity was converted into a vibrant industry fetching foreign exchange and a contributor for country’s economic development.
