Four Rameswaram fishermen arrested

Four Rameswaram fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy when they were found stranded at Delft Island after their boat developed technical snag, according to reports received here on Friday.

The fishermen - Murugan, Muniyandi, Kaliyandi and Kaleeswaran - who had set out for fishing on Wednesday morning in the boat, got stuck at the island and were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Friday on charges of illegally entering their waters.

U. Arulanandham, president of the Alliance for the Release of Innocent Fishermen (ARIF), said the fishermen were produced before the Kayts court and remanded in judicial custody in Jaffna prison till July 25.
