Four get nine years imprisonment

Subordinate Judge of Attur court S. Malarmathy sentenced four persons to nine years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 60,000 each for attempting to murder a family over a land dispute.

The prosecution case was that a pathway dispute prevailed between two families in Punavarai village in Thammampatti. On July 24, 2010, V. Lakshmanan (65), R. Perumal (50), V. Gopal (35) and P. Rajendran (32) attacked Kaimuthu, his wife Bagyam and relatives Ayyadurai and Neela and attempted to murder Ayyadurai.

The four sustained injuries and were admitted to the Government Hospital. The Thammampatti police registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and arrested the four.

On Monday, the judge found Lakshmanan, Gopal, Perumal and Rajendran guilty. The four were sentenced to undergo seven years for attempt to murder and a fine of Rs. 10,000 and another two years for hurting and a fine of Rs. 50,000 each.
