Four charred to death in bus accident

The accident occurred when the Tiruchi-bound omni bus carrying 30 passengers and coming from Chennai went out of control and rammed behind the cement concrete mixer lorry at Ajees Nagar near Ulundurpet.

Four persons, including the crew of an omni bus were charred to death when the bus rammed into a cement concrete mixer lorry at Ulundurpet near here in the early hours of Friday.

The accident occurred when the Tiruchi-bound omni bus carrying 30 passengers and coming from Chennai went out of control and rammed behind the cement concrete mixer lorry at Ajees Nagar near Ulundurpet. In the impact the bus burst into flames.

The fire engulfed the front portion killing four persons. The identity of the victims is yet to be ascertained. The remaining passengers in the bus escaped through the emergency exit and by breaking open the window panes.

On information, Fire and Rescue Services personnel retrieved the charred bodies from the vehicle and shifted the injured to the Ulundurpet and Villupuram GH.

Five fire tenders from Villupuram and Ulundurpet rushed to the spot and it took more than an hour to put out the fire. The omni bus was completely gutted in the accident.

Traffic on the Tiruchi-Chennai national highway was disrupted for more than two hours due to the accident. Superintendent of Police S Jeyakumar visited the spot.
