The night-long vigil, by forest personnel and residents of the Adi Dravidar Colony in Thuraiyeri village, to spot the animal which mauled 12 goats to death proved fruitful.
Dogs sighted
The animals which were impounded in a shed were attacked by dogs on Monday. Personnel who kept vigil sighted five dogs at the same place at 11.50 p.m. on Tuesday.
M. Rafeeq Ahmed, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) told The Hindu that five dogs which came to Adi Dravidar Colony tried to jump into the cattle shed to attack the goats again.
They were chased away by the public. The vigil and the sighting of the dogs helped the forest department to disprove the allegation that the goats were killed by a leopard.
The public have decided to trace and kill the dogs in order to save their goats and cattle.
The Forest Department removed the drop camera, which was erected on Tuesday to photograph the animals which might enter the colony, since the public have sighted the dogs, the ACF said.
