Virudhunagar Collector V. Rajaram belongs to a rare breed of officials. It was evident at a restaurant in Rajapalayam on January 13.

After inspecting dengue-affected areas in the town, he arrived at the restaurant for lunch and went inside the air-conditioned hall with a couple of staff to sit in a corner table.

After lunch, he waited for the bill and after some time went to the cash counter to ask for it only to learn that it had been paid by someone from a government department.

He asked the man at the cash counter: “I had four chappatis. How much should I pay?” The man hesitantly said, “Rs. 90.” Mr. Rajaram paid the bill and walked away. And the person who paid the bill was amazed.
