Officials of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department on Wednesday evening conducted raids in various shops in the town and destroyed expired soft drinks of leading brands and also packaged eggs in bakeries.

A team led by District Designated Officer K. Tamil Selvan, including food safety inspectors, inspected bakeries in and around bus stand, Mohanur Road, Paramathi Road, Salem Road and Tiruchengode Road and checked the preparation methods of bread and other items and verified the expiry date in packets containing ingredients. The team found broken eggs that come in packets being used for preparation of cakes in bakeries and destroyed them.

Warning

Bakery owners were warned not to use such eggs and also not to use banned preservatives in the preparation of sweets and other items.

They were asked not to keep food items for sale in the open. The team also found expired soft drinks of leading brands kept for sale and emptied them.

Workers in bakeries were asked to ensure sanitation in the place and not compromise on quality.

The team also inspected packaged drinking water cans kept in shops for sale.

Officials have asked the people to buy only products that have details of manufacturer, date of manufacturing and expiry and other details before purchasing the product.
