Five held for smuggling sand

Five persons, who were involved in smuggling sand from the Cauvery river bed in Paramathi Velur, were arrested by the police here.

Paramathi Velur police received a tipoff that sand was being smuggled and sold in villages.

The police found Udayasuriyan (44), Murugesan (49), Vimalrajan (22), Palaniyappan (55) and Shanmugam (32) involved in smuggling the sand. They were involved in delivering the sand at the customers’ places based on request. The police arrested them and seized a two-wheeler and 300 kg of sand from them. They were produced in the court and lodged at sub-jail in Namakkal.
